Design of new Buffalo EOC building unveiled Tuesday, May 26, 2009
The design plans for the new Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center building have been unveiled.
The new four-story Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center, first announced in 2007, will be built in downtown Buffalo. Construction is expected to begin in August 2010 and be completed in 2012. The building has been designed by Holt Architects and was funded by $26 million in state funds secured for the new building.
The Buffalo EOC, currently in the 400 block of Washington Street, helps the region’s disadvantaged population by providing educational job training, college preparation and related services to some 2,500 people a year.
The new 64,000 square-foot Buffalo EOC building will feature large windows and open stairways that draw natural light into the building. The first floor of the new building will include a conference center and a Head Start program, with a separate entrance and enclosed playground.
The additional three floors will include classrooms, faculty and administrative offices, computer labs, library, student and faculty lounges. The lobby connecting the two buildings also will serve as a reception area for the complex.
